Cuomo celebrated the installation of a new Capital Region gateway welcome sign spanning Albany Shaker Road in Colonie, Albany County and the unveiling of the new in-terminal Mario & Matilda Cuomo Pavilion Room, symbolically marking the completion of the $63.3 million modernization of Albany International Airport.

�� was the general contractor on the construction of a new parking garage at Albany International Airport and the welcome sign spanning the roadway to the airport’s entrance.

Departure of tower crane marks project milestone at the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care at RRH

Construction on the 7-story, 312,000 SF center began in the Spring of 2017 with a ceremonial groundbreaking in May. The new building will feature 23 multi-disciplinary operating rooms, 108 private acuity-adaptable patient rooms, 20 private postpartum rooms, and 14 special care nursery rooms. This week the project reaches another significant milestone as the tower crane comes down from the city skyline where it has been since 2018. �� is CM-at-Risk for the Center, which is being built at Rochester General Hospital, Portland Avenue campus. The �� project team is led by Jim Scheirer, Mike Morris, Tony Rorick and Joe Morgigno.

Update on North Carolina operations after Hurricane Florence

Thankfully �� project sites did not sustain damage from Hurricane Florence, as the storm shifted to the west and its winds died down to a category 1 before making landfall. Unfortunately, we have a few employees whose homes at the eastern coast of North Carolina sustained substantial damage.

The week prior to the storms impending impact, leadership along with site and safety teams assembled a plan using our standard preparedness checklist and customization plan. We deployed our emergency response system to remain in frequent contact with our teams and adjusted our plans as needed. By Thursday, September 13, project teams had prepared their sites – removing scrap materials that could turn into windblown hazards; anchoring and restraining fencing, barricades and other items that could blow away; closing excavations and banding/securing lumber and planking. Additional generators were on hand in the event any sites experienced critical power outages.

Project sites remained closed the day of the storm and through the weekend to give the situation time to settle and give workers time to take care of their own homes and families; however, by the following Monday, teams were back on the job. Crews did spend some time cleaning up water and mud from the 8-9 inches of rain the storm brought to the area, by through their careful planning they were able to avoid any major issues.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with those who experienced more severe impact and in some cases loss from Florence, and we thank all of the �� employees and subcontractors who worked to minimize the impacts we could control. As the seasons shift we hope that everyone remains safe andsecure.

Held on June 12-14, the NCEDA conference provided an excellent opportunity for economic development professionals from across North Carolina to expand their knowledge, sharpen their skills and build connections so they can advance their careers and better serve the needs of their communities.

�� was a proud sponsor at the 2018 Chix Dig It event on Thursday, June 22 at North Hills in Raleigh, NC. The event celebrates women in construction, and the luncheon is designed to uplift and celebrate women in the construction, engineering and design fields, while giving back through scholarships. This year’s event specifically recognized amazing women of engineering, The Hidden Figures: The Untold Story of Women in Engineering.

“The panel of women was truly inspiring,” said �� Sr. Marketing Manager Valerie Bono. “There were stories of adversity, hope and inspiration – and, of course, a bit of humor.”

In addition to listening to the incredible panelists, the event honored Mrs. Emily Brown Blount – the very first woman engineer in the State of North Carolina!

�� attendees included Denise Thompson, Kathryn Payne, Stuart Short, Jack Goodrich and Valerie Bono.

Proceeds from the event support the Serving 4 Success Scholarship Fund to benefit young women pursuing a career in engineering.

New Albany training center opens for carpenters union

A ribbon cutting was held June 11 for the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters’ new training center in Albany. �� was CM-at-Risk for the $5 million, 75,000 square foot project. CEO Bill Goodrich, Vice President Neil Schiavi, Superintendent Bill Hess and Account Executive Mike Corey represented �� at the event. Other participants included Jim Hayes, Bill Banfield and Dave Haines from the NE Regional Council of Carpenters; Roberta Reardon, commissioner of the New York State Department of Labor; Neil Breslin, New York State senator from the 44^th District; and Todd Helfrich, president of the Eastern Contractors Association.

Generous donations double funds raised at golf outing

The annual Raymond F. �� Memorial Golf Outing was held on Saturday, June 9 at the Eagle Vale Golf Course. Thanks to our subcontractors and employees, we had our most successful year to date. In total, the event raised more than $15,000 — double the amount of last year’s donations — for the Raymond F. �� Memorial Fund and the American Cancer Society.

Duke Alumni Hall team holds pull planning session

The Duke Alumni Hall project team held a “pull planning session” in the Durham office on June 5. This meeting brought together all subcontractors and trades currently working on the project to make a baseline schedule for the rest of the major milestones.

In pull planning, a goal is set for substantial completion, and everyone works backwards from that date. Subcontactors take responsibility for their various milestones and they schedule tasks, including durations and crew sizes, by writing them down on sticky notes and putting them in their correct spot on the board.

Involving the subs in developing the schedule is a good way to get their buy-in, versus �� making a schedule and expecting everyone to stick to it. It also helps identify potential scheduling conflicts and issues that can then be handled proactively, avoiding delays.

Rochester Regional Health posts first crane video

Rochester Regional Health has posted a 360-degree video experience from the crane at the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care project that is currently underway at Rochester General Hospital. The video shows the operator’s view from the crane, which is currently the fifth highest structure in the Rochester area. for the video on Facebook.
