The expansion and parking structure project has received a 2023 Excellence in Partnering Award from the . Each year, the award honors project teams that have achieved the high ideals of partnering – both formal and informal – on construction projects across the state.

partnered with The Strong, owner’s representative HB Cornerstone, CJS Architects, M/E Engineering, and LaBella Associates on the museum project, which celebrated its grand opening in June. The four-level, 100,000-SF museum expansion now features the World Video Game Hall of Fame, a two-story gallery and open lobby, Hasbro Game Park and Riedman Plaza. The scope also included renovations to the museum’s café, gift shop, restrooms and offices. The 330,000-SF, five-level, cast-in-place parking structure – which opened in 2020 as phase one of the project – offers space for approximately 1,000 vehicles and features a unique façade comprised of 352 6 x 6-inch steel tubes in 15 different colors.

Vice President Jim Scheirer, Project Executive Kailly Mintel and Project Manager Courtney Lafferty were joined by Matthew Emens from HB Cornerstone to accept the award at a December 6 ceremony.

The historic renovation of Bent’s Opera House in Medina, N.Y. has received a 2023 Excellence in Historic Preservation Award from the . Since 1984, the League’s annual Excellence Awards program has shined a light on the people who are using historic preservation to make all our lives better — through exemplary restoration projects, indispensable publications, individual action, and organizational distinction.

Built over 150 years ago, Bent’s Opera House once hosted speakers like Frederick Douglass and entertainers like Buffalo Bill Cody. After the theater closed, the building served the community in a variety of ways until the 1990s. Bent’s was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, but by 2010 it was abandoned and in imminent danger of collapsing. Local developers Talis Equity, led by Roger Hunderford, had a vision to give Bent’s new life.

“It was an honor to work with Talis Equity on the restoration of Bent’s Opera House,” said Regional Operations Manager Jeff Panza. “At , we take great pride in projects that have a positive impact within their communities, and this historic restoration has given new life to an important cornerstone of Medina’s downtown business district.”

At the Saratoga Preservation Foundation’s Preservation Recognition Awards on September 13, the Bethesda Church project was honored in the roof restoration category.

This project began as a roof replacement, removing old shingles and installing a new standing seam roof. Additional scope was added during the project’s duration, including replacing the historic slate roof on the bell tower, replacing the fire stair, extensive restoration on dormer woodwork and other exterior wood trim to match the historic profiles, and upgrades to the mechanical systems.

The team also made drainage improvements to the brick garden wall at the back of the church, which was originally part of the neighboring Grand Union Hotel before it was demolished in the 1950’s and deeded to the church.

On Thursday, July 27, the Niagara University Kiernan Recreation Center project received top honor in the collegiate category at Buffalo’s Brick by Brick Awards.

Given annually by magazine, the awards recognize best-in-class real estate, construction and development in Western New York.

served as general contractor on the renovation project, which transformed the existing 43,600-SF recreation center and constructed a new two-story, 18,000-SF addition. The scope included a new weight room, sports medicine suite, dance studios, locker rooms, storage, meeting spaces and offices.

On April 21, two projects – the Ambulatory Orthopaedics Center (AOC) and Global Cyber Security Institute – were recognized at the 2023 (CSI) Rochester Chapter Awards.

CSI is a technical organization that works to organize, standardize and communicate construction information. The annual CSI Rochester Chapter Awards recognize Rochester area projects in a variety of different categories.

The University of Rochester AOC project received the Construction Management Award for Area A. This award recognizes exceptional teamwork between the construction manager, subcontractors and design team to improve the process, quality and outcome of a project. Vice President Kevin Hoffman accepted this award on behalf of and the entire project team.

The RIT Global Cyber Security Institute project received the Out-of-the-Box Award, which recognizes exceptional teamwork between the owner, designer and contractor and the innovative use of materials or methods on a project.
