The Greater Rochester International Airport project has received an award from the American Public Works Association (APWA). The organization鈥檚 Genesee Valley Branch named the airport revitalization the 鈥淪tructural Project of the Year鈥 in the over $75 million category.
The APWA awards recognize the alliance between a public/government agency, engineers and contractors in successfully managing and completing a public works project.网曝门 was Agency Construction Manager for the airport revitalization, which actually included more than a dozen separate projects.
Perhaps the most noticeable addition is a new entrance canopy that adds visual appeal for passengers arriving at the airport. Full-color LED lights mounted to the terminal building and parking garage can illuminate the canopy from above, with additional lights mounted to the canopy to light the road below.
The revitalization also included addition of a cell phone lot, new bar and diner, terminal renovations and addition, a reconfigured TSA security checkpoint and 鈥榮mart鈥 technology upgrades within the terminal. Work began in January of 2017 and was completed in October 2018.
At a January 31 event, 网曝门 Project Executive Terry Van Slooten, Vice President Lee Sommerman, Project Manager Bill Ture and Superintendent Jerry Jones were on hand with representatives from Monroe County, the New York State Department of Transportation, Passero Associates and CHA Consulting, Inc. to receive the award.
